note: Pounce has thrived with using Hillmann's Advanced Training Program.

Point Blinds and Pounce

The next one was to involve water and had five lines accomplished in three sessions. This was a pleasant surprise.....easy again. Pounce is literally a "Kwick" study.

Pounce is a Senior level retriever. Her first "point blind" was a walk-out with three lines of 139, 178, and 159 yards. The only factors were many slots past trees en route. She one whistled the first, two whistled the second and lined the third. She smoked all three lines. It was too easy.
With the exception of putting diversion marks in the field or maybe taking advantage of a very strong, cross wind factor, this first point blind is not of much value anymore. Essentially, it was a measuring stick (perspective).

Next up was more distance at another field trial property. In two sessions, three lines were established at 237, 291 and 295 yards. There is a potential for many other lines (including water). (Master next year, Q's two years?)

A question may arise out of concerns that this approach focuses on momentum. It is not about momentum. It is all about handling skills and dealing with factors/diversions. As for the risk of getting out of balance (that's on the trainer).  The intrinsic value in "point blinds" is maintaining excellent momentum (not creating it). The focus is on handling teamwork with respect to being adept at adjusting to diversions, distractions and factors.
A responsive, skillful and confident team player is the goal. There are many other subtleties that need to be sorted out.

Aug 24, '17 trained early at the Stoughton DTA established a 4th leg of the point blind rather quickly. For a warmup, the 1st leg was lined at 227 yards (moved back some to make it longer). Then we walked to where the first "go" on the 4th leg was planned and one handle was all she needed. This is the first leg with water.  The next four "runs" (equal increments) were all lined
with the fifth and final "go" at 304 yards from a large mound on the west side.
note: five runs, only one handle (on the first)....."aaahh" that was way too easy
note: The rationale for doing "point blinds" is to work on handling. Therefore, we
will be running each NEW leg after the first at the full distance. "Laddering"
makes it too easy. "Break out" the golf range finder.
